Grenoble, France and Dallas, TX, USA - 19 January 2017 - Tronics, a designer and manufacturer of innovative nano and microsystems, is listed on the Paris alternext market (isin code: FR0004175099 - ALTRO).
Tronics announced that its 2016 revenue was down, as anticipated, at €6.3M, versus €7.8M in 2015. The activity has been mainly affected by the loss of a customer which ceased its activities at the beginning of the year (contribution for €1.4M to the 2015 sales versus 0 in 2016) and by delays taken in some engineering projects.
However, Tronics improved its performances in 2 domains, validating its technological expertise in innovative sensors: 1/ doubling of the “Life Sciences” activity, now representing 30% of total sales, and 2/ strong growth of GYPRO® high performance inertial sensors sales, multiplied by 4.5 over the period. Although 11% up, the rise of optical components has been lower than initially expected. Furthermore, the company has pursued its strategy of customer portfolio diversification and business development with 10 new contracts signed over the period.
By segment, the engineering was down at €3.9M versus €5.7M in 2015, due to the shift of industrialization projects and the loss of the struggling customer. Manufacturing activity reached €2.4M, up 15% versus 2015.
The geographic distribution of revenue as of 31 December 2016 shows the noticeable development in the United States over the period, especially linked to the rise of the “Life Sciences” segment. By region, Americas represent 24% of total sales (versus 10% in 2015), Europe represents 69% of sales, and Asia, 7%.
While the Group implemented the announced cost reduction plan of €700k, the net income should be around €-5.8M in 2016, versus €-3.0M in 2015, reflecting the impact of the reduced level of activity as well as costs related to the public tender offer initiated by EPCOS AG.
