BK Medical Showcases Revolutionary Flex Focus 700 Ultrasound System at the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology Congress

Vendredi 26 Aoû 2011 à 10:00

PEABODY, Mass., Aug. 25, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BK Medical, a wholly owned subsidiary of Analogic Corporation (Nasdaq:ALOG), will showcase its innovative Flex Focus™ 700 ultrasound system and BK Power Pack at the 13th World Congress of the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB), in conjunction with the 35th joint meeting of the Austrian, German and Swiss Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine, and Euroson 2011. WFUMB 2011 will take place in Vienna, Austria, August 26-29, 2011.

"We believe it is critical to offer our customers the latest technology and most advanced imaging modalities for ultrasound imaging today," said Lars Shaw, vice president global marketing, BK Medical. "Our scientists and engineers worked closely with surgeons worldwide to develop a dedicated solution for a wide range of interventional procedures with superior imaging capabilities. As a result, the Flex Focus 700 offers premium performance in surgery, internal medicine, and general imaging, enabling clinicians to deliver advanced imaging to all of their patients with confidence."

The system has been very well received since its initial introduction for surgery, where BK Medical is a global leader. The BK Power Pack is a full back-up power solution for the Flex Focus family of ultrasound systems that ensures plug-free imaging for up to four hours, allowing improvements to workflow and potential reductions in patient wait times.

"We use the BK Medical ultrasound systems in interventional radiology primarily for intraoperative guidance to perform ablation and biopsy procedures," said Brooke Jeffrey, Jr., M.D., section chief, abdominal imaging, Department of Radiology, Stanford University Medical Center. BK Medical has a comprehensive range of innovative, unique transducers that address the specialized needs and clinical challenges of interventional radiologists worldwide. As an example, the high-resolution biplane transducer 8824, with simultaneous imaging in transverse and longitudinal planes, gives precise anatomic and location information needed for needle guidance and multiple interventional procedures.

BK Medical's IQPAC™ technology, used in the Flex Focus 700 and 400 systems, and the Pro Focus Ultraview, provides premium quality diagnostic images for all patient types. The IQPAC technology combines the company's proprietary enhanced tissue definition and angular compound imaging technologies to optimize the ultrasound image. As a result, contrast resolution is improved and the tissue margins are more easily visualized. Together, these two technologies enable improved border definition and reduced speckle noise in the image, resulting in improved image quality.

BK Medical recently introduced Advanced Robotic Ultrasound Technology™ (ART™), the industry's first complete ultrasound imaging solution for robotic surgery that includes the Flex Focus 700, specialized transducers, and tools designed specifically for robotic-assisted surgery. The premium performance ultrasound solution may benefit surgeons performing robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) procedures and robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) procedures.
